Japanese maple trees (acer palmatum)
Acer palmatum also called the Japanese maple tree or smooth Japanese tree is a more so woody plant originating to japan, china, Korea and eastern Mongolia. Acer palmatum is a deciduous shrub or miniature tree reaching a height of 6 to 10 metres often growing as a understory plant in the woodlands this tree is unique to itself as it has multiple trunks at the base joining together in habitat the Japanese maple tree is often shaped and formed like a hemisphere or produces a dome like structure the leaves reach a length of 4-12cm long and the tree produces a fruit called samaras; samaras are around 2-3cm long with a 6-8mm seed the seeds of Japanese maple and similar species require stratification in order to properly germinate even when the acer palmatum shows considerable genetic variation even when its in the mature stage, with the seedlings of the parent tree typically difference and similarities for example leaf sizes, shape and color are typically different. |
The Japanese lime tree (Tilia)
Tilia is commonly called what we know as a lime tree Tilia’s may be commonly called a lime tree but in fact they are not as closely related as you thought to the lime fruit. Tilia is a genus of about 30 different species most of the temperate northern hemisphere the Tilia species is a fairly large deciduous tree reaching typically 20-40 metres tall equivalent to 130 feet tall and leaves reaching 20 centimetres long(8inches) the limes are hermaphrodic, having perfect flowers with both male and female parts, pollinated by insects. The tilias sturdy trunk stands like a pillar and the twigs that hold up the leaves are fine and thick in. the leaves on all tilia tress are shaped like a heart and are most ASYMMETRICAL. |
The Beech Tree (fagus crenata)
The Japanese beech tree know as the fagus crenata is one of the more typical deciduous trees found in the south in Hokkaido and is also discovered up north east in Kyushu. The Japanese Beech tree is one of the bigger trees as it reaches 1400 metres and is above sea level equivalent to 35 metres tall. The bark is a smooth gray color and the crown of the tree is rounded the leaves of the tree are grown uniquely alternating on each branch. the tree has over 7 different veins and broadest towards the base. The Japanese Beech tree has a short stalk ranging to approximately 15mm long and there seeds and young developed leaves are edible. |
